In fact, Rogue is coming up with the Rogue Portable Gymnastic System - link can be found here: http://www.roguefitness.com/catalog/product_info.php?cPath=34&products_id=390

Portable pullup bar and rings. How sweet is that? With regards to the Elite Rings v1, you can probably just skip passing the straps through the slots and hang them like you would any other rings.

Glad the shoes are serving you well!

Jay C -- Hey Jay! Thanks for the kind comments! Hope you are well. Shoot me an email sometime!

Spider63 -- Thanks! The rings are awesome. I think they will have no problem with loads as heavy as 400 pounds and beyond (just an estimate). I don't know the specifics but the heavy gauge steel tube used to construct the rings, coupled with the heavy duty nylon strap and buckle, ought to hold out under any human weight. I would say the only factor you would have to worry about (in terms of support and safety) would have to be the mounting point of the rings. If that's a firm support, everything will hold up well!

Carl -- Thanks for stopping by! I really like the material the Elite Rings (version 2) are constructed out of - you can see a close-up here:
http://www.ringtraining.com/pages/eliteringsii.html
The texture is aggressive but still fine-grained, which doesn't tear up your hands. In terms of grip I would rate them slightly above the Rogue Rings.

There's a slot that comes with the Elite Rings but you can choose to forgo passing the straps through the slot and just hang the rings as you would the Rogues. I personally prefer free-hanging rings.

The Elite Rings are made out of plastic, unlike the Rogue Rings, but I wouldn't assume that is a compromise in terms of strength/durability. The good thing about using plastic is that the Elite Rings are considerably lighter than the Rogues. I don't have them with me right now but according to the website they weigh less than a pound apiece.

The main bear I have with the Elites is that it was very difficult to feed the strap through the mouth of the buckle. Even with my Elite Rings v2 I spent plenty of time agonizing over fitting the straps through the rings. And that's pretty much the last thing you want to do when you want to get started on a workout. Of course, you can just leave the straps in place, attach a carabiner to the straps, and just hook the carabiner over your mounting point whenever you want to use the rings. But that won't work for mounting points that are high up or too thick in breadth, for instance a tree branch, since you'll have to hook the carabiner around the mounting point.

So I would probably pick the Rogues over the Elites by virtue of the easy mounting process, thanks to the buckle system on the Rogues. They're priced around the same. You might also want to look at Coach Sommer's Xtreme Rings if you're looking for a cheaper alternative - www.gymnasticbodies.com (look under the Store). I've tried them too (but really briefly at CrossFit NYC) and I thought they were great value for the price (USD $49.99). The grip width of the Xtremes seemed to be slightly smaller in terms of diameter. Rings were easy to mount, almost as easy as Rogues, but straps were also thinner. Rings were made out of plastic and had the most aggressive surface texture out of the three, I thought. Had I known the Xtremes had come out on the market, I might have bought those in place of the Rogues. But I don't regret the Rogues.

Alright, hope this helps. I have the Elite Rings (v1) and though they, too, are nice; I hate the fact that you have to thread the strap through two small slots in the ring to hang them. (v2 of the Elite Rings - which came out a WEEK after I got my rings fixes this issue with a single slot, but why have a slot at all?).

I've had the Rogue Do-Win weightlifting shoes for a week now and so far I really like them.

Excellent review, BTW.

-Fred.

And, yes, we do need to do dinner some night!-Fred.https://www.blogger.com/profile/17523833466888260528noreply@blogger.com
